Gothenburg 2021 and now Eindhoven 2023. After defeating Wolfsburg on Saturday in an exhilarating 3-2 comeback victory, FC Barcelona women's team have further sealed their status as the dominant force in the European game. The team has played in three consecutive finals and four of the last five. Having already claimed their place as the number one team in Spain, with four leagues, three cups and two super cups in the last four years, they have now got not one but two Champions Leagues to add to that impressive haul of silverware.
Sandra Paños, María León, Marta Torrejón, Mariona Caldentey, Alexia Putellas, Patri Guijarro, Aitana Bonmati, Asisat Oshoala and Gemma Font have played their part throughout, appearing in all four finals and twice collecting winners' medals.
A select group
FC Barcelona have joined a select group of just six teams that have been European champions on two occasions. The outright leaders are still far and away Olympique Lyon (8), followed by FFC Frankfurt (4). Those are the only sides that have more than two wins to their name. Since the UWCL was created in 2001, the only other double winners have been Wolfsburg themselves and their fellow Germans Turbine Potsdam, as well as Umea of Sweden.
