Robert Lewandowski needed no time at all to adapt to playing in a brand new league. After delighting his fans in the Bundesliga he has shown he can do the same thing in La Liga, finishing as top goalscorer at the first time of asking.
In the 34 games he has played, the Polish superstar netted 23 times, comfortably more then second placed Karim Benzema of Real Madrid with 19 and Joselu of Espanyol with 16.
20th pichichi for Barça
Lewandowski scored 6 braces this season and scored single goals in 11 other games. This was the 20th time that a barça player has finished as Liga top scorer, and the fifth to do it at his first attempt. He is also the first ever Polish winner.
Hans Krankl topped the scoring in his year in blaugrana in 1978/79, and two years later, Enrique Castro ‘Quini’ followed suit.
Then came to Barzilian star signings, first Romario in 1993/94 and then Ronaldo in 1996/97. Lewandowski has now joined the select group of what are now five first-time winners.
Furthering the legend
Lewandowski has been a top goalscorer in eleven different league championships. He did it seven times in the Bundesliga, six times for Bayern Munic and once for Borussia Dortmund. Before that, he was top scorer in the Polish league on one occasion, and twice more in the Pllish second division.
