Krankl, Quini, Romário, Ronaldo... and Robert Lewandowski!

The Polish striker has had such an exceptional debut season that he is part of a group that, until now, only had four members

Robert Lewandowski's job has always been to score goals. He was already a master of the art before he came to Barça, and he hasn't lost any of his magic touch.

With two goals on Sunday at Espanyol, he has taken his tally for the season up to 31. There are still four games to get more, but he has already become just the fifth player to score over 30 goals in his first year at the club.

Stunning debuts

Austrian Hans Krankl was the first when he came straight from Rapid Vienna to score 36 goals in the 1978/79 season.

Two seasons later the only Spaniard on the list, Enrique Castro, better known as Quini, scored 30 goals in the year directly after coming to the club from Sporting Gijón.

Then there were two Brazilians, both acquired from PSV Eindhoven. In 1993/94, Romário delighted the fans with his samba antics and netted 32 times. Not long after, in 1996/97, the great Ronaldo Nazario blasted aside all previous records with his 47 goals in his one and only season in blaugrana. And now, with 31 goals and counting, Lewandowski has entered the select group.

Pichichi-bound

There are four games to go before we find out who will be collecting the Pichichi award for topping the Liga goalscoring charts. The Pole currently leads the race with 21 goals, four more than Karim Benzema in second place.

Lewy is well used to this kind of thing. He was Bundesliga top scorer an amazing seven times, six with Bayern Munich and one with Borussia Dortumund. He was also once the top scorer in the Polish Ekstraklasa, and twice in the Polish second division.
