The club is working hard on what will the temporary museum site in the current ice rink building. President Joan Laporta, together with Jaume Roures, founding partner of the MEDIAPRO GROUP, led a party that inspected the progress of the work this Monday. Everything is going to schedule and if all goes to plan, what is being called the Barça Immersive Tour, will be open to the public on Wednesday 7 June and will remain open until the new Spotify Camp Nou is ready in the 2024/25 season.
The project is being run in association with Mediapro Exhibitions, which specialises in the creation and development of museum and exhibition spaces, and which oversaw the refurbishment of the old museum in 2010. The temporary site includes not just the area of the old ice rink but also its auxiliary services, such as the dressing rooms and façade, for which new entrances are being built. The eventual space will be 2,400 m2 divided into different zones to improve the visitor experience, and will replace the current Stadium Tour & Museum, which will not be able to function while work is being done on the future Spotify Camp Nou from June 2023 and until it is complete and the team returns to the stadium in November 2024, in time for the club's 125th anniversary.
Work on the new divisions and entrances is already done, and right now it is the screens and other new technologies that are being installed, as well as virtual reality, immersive activities and holograms that will all help to explain the club's history in a fun, entertaining way. All of the exhibits from the current museum will be brought across to the new venue once all the preparatory work is done.
Pilot test for future museum
The temporary museum will serve three principal purposes. First, it is being used as a pilot project for the implementation of virtual reality, immersive activities and holograms that will ultimately feature in the new museum in the Spotify Camp Nou. Second, it will set new standards in technology, modernity and innovation. And third, it will ensure that a major source of income can be maintained throughout the stadium development process.
