Sunday's game against Atlético Madrid was a high stakes match and Xavi Hernández decided to select Ferran Torres to play alongside Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski in Barça's front three, and what a decision that proved to be.
The Spaniard scored the only goal of the game towards the end of the first half, which proved enough to take another big step closer towards the league title. Ferran Torres took his chance, just like he did against Elche a few weeks ago on his last start, when he grabbed a goal and an assist.
With two goals in his last two starts, Ferran is looking to show the important role he can play for the rest of the season, but if we look back rather than forward, we can see that his goal yesterday against Atlético Madrid had a special significance.
With his low shot past Oblak, Ferran became Barça's first Spanish player to score against Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid in the same season since Luis Enrique in the 2002/03 season.
It may sound somewhat trivial, but only four players have managed to score against both teams his season. There are still eight games to go, so another player might achieve the feat, but Ferran joined both Gerard Moreno and Yéremi Pino from Villarreal, and Coto Muriqi from Mallorca on this exclusive list.
