FC Barcelona and Marcos Alonso have reached an agreement for the player to extend his contract until 30 June 2024. The buyout clause has been set at 50 million euros.
The event at which pen was put to paper took place this Friday in the offices at Spotify Camp Nou, with president Joan Laporta in attendance along with first vice-president Rafa Yuste, the vice-president for the economic area Eduard Romeu, director of football Mateu Alemany and director of sport Jordi Cruyff.
19 games in blaugrana
Marcos Alonso arrived at the club on September 2 and made his debut just eight days later in the 4-0 win at Cádiz in the league. Wearing number 17, he came on at left back in the 78th minute. It was from that same position that he scored his first goal for the team in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen.
Having demonstrated his ability in defence and especially to slot into the Barça system with such elegance, he started playing at centre back, and it was from there that he added a second goal to his account. That was a powerful header in the derby with Espanyol at Spotify Camp Nou that ended 1-1.
With two goals in 19 games so far, he has already collected his first trophy at Barça, the Spanish Super Cup won in Saudi Arabia.
