Ter Stegen has been named as the new fourth captain of FC Barcelona. The German, now in his ninth season at the club, is taking the place of the retired Gerard Piqué, and thus joins a foursome that also features first captain Sergio Busquets, and his two deputies Sergi Roberto and Jordi Alba.
Ter Stegen has got off to his best ever start to a season, conceding just 5 goals in 14 league games. The man who Xavi once described as the 'silent leader' who everyone listens to when he has something to say, didn't play in any of Germany's games at Qatar 2022, and as his team was knocked out in the group stage, he has been back at the club since December 15.
