FC Barcelona supports International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

As part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is being commemorated today, Friday 25 November, FC Barcelona is once again standing up for the eradication of chauvinistic violence. Athletes will read the institutional manifesto of the world of sport at an event in the Palau Blaugrana. Over the coming weeks, the club will also organise a talk for the boys and girls residing in La Masia and another one for all club staff with the aim of raising awareness of different gender roles and stereotypes and to offer practical solutions for situations of violence, and to explain how to detect associated toxic behaviours.

The talks are being run by the ​​Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Area, and will be given by two experts in the prevention of gender violence and violence against against children. Together with other activities going on around the event, this is further evidence of the club's commitment to raising social awareness and eradicating discriminatory conduct from all areas of the club.

The speaker is Carla Vall, a criminologist specialising in public safety and the prevention and addressing of gender-based violence and violence against children, together with Pau Quintana, a graduate in Social Education and a postgraduate in Mentoring and Educational Coaching. This talk, which will be aimed at young residents, will be held next Thursday 1 December as part of the La Masia Continuing Education Classes, a project launched last season to support the education of the club's young  athletes. The second talk will be attended by FC Barcelona staff, again presented by Carla Vall, on Friday 13 January 13, 2023.

The two speakers will offer an overview of sexist violence and attendees will be shown how to appreciate the different situations that they could encounter in life in order to ensure that they are able to act both proactively and reactively. Carla Vall is the author of the book "Romper en Caso de Emergencia", with a prologue by Paula Bonet, and recently won the 2022 Menina Prize in the feminist justice category, in recognition for her work in the fight against sexist violence.

Other plans for November 25

As for other related activities at FC Barcelona, ​​last Sunday in the build-up to the game with Alavés, women footballers Berta Doltra and Martina Fernández, together with Madou Múrcia and Juan Pablo Galbarro from the U16B boys team, read the text in which "all forms of sexist violence are denounced." The same will happen today in the Palau Blaugrana before the the Euroleague basketball fixture against Cazoo Baskonia. Promoted by the General Secretariat for Sport and Physical Activity (Esporcat) the participants will be women's basketball players, Ainhoa ​​Lopez and Lucia Navarro, and Kasparas Jakučionis and Èdgar Moure on behalf of the basketball section and residents of La Masia.

FC Barcelona has always taken a firm position against sexist violence. It incorporated this into its Statutes, by including on 23 October 2021 a section in article 4T that recognises the basic and elementary principles of human beings as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This establishes that FC Barcelona "will ensure the equal rights and dignity of the people" and in compliance with these objectives, the club "will promote the democratic values ​​of equality and non-discrimination" and "will fight for the eradication of all macho, homophobic and racist attitudes in society and sports."
