Alexia Putellas was at the Spotify Camp Nou before the men's game with Real Valladolid to parade her latest accolade, the UEFA Player of the Year award that has further cemented her reputation as one of the greatest female players ever to grace the game.
The home fans gave her a rousing reception, partly because of her latest prize but also as an expression of solidarity with a player who has not played since July due to a long-term injury.
Historic honour
The Catalan midfielder picked up the 2021/22 trophy at the UEFA gala in Istanbul this last Thursday on occasion of the Champions League draw. It was particularly special because she became the first woman ever to be named player of the year two times in a row.
