Party time in the Palau Blaugrana. Despite a slow start, Barça moved through the gears with a tremendous third quarter, Abrines shining to help take the team to the win (84-69). This win during the 50th anniversary celebration of the Palau Blaugrana further consolidates first place in the Liga Endesa.
Slow burner
The game began slowly, with the celebrating home crowd having to wait two minutes to cheer the first basket - a lovely three-pointer from Abrines that was a sign of things to come.
However, both sides proved solid in defence and inaccurate in attack. As a result, there wasn't much to choose between the sides in the first half, with defence proving dominant. 29-30 at the break.
Third-quarter take-off
Barça came out flying for the second half, with Laprovittola and Abrines particularly stepping on the gas. The crowd responded and Barça had a clear lead for the first time, 43-36 (min. 25). The Mallorcan then extended the lead to 10 points, delighting the crowd with a slam dunk. Sanli and Kuric chipped in, and the home side had a 14-point advantage when the quarter drew to a close.
The final quarter was a question of comfortably seeing out the game, final score 84-69, adding to the party atmosphere among the culers in the Palau. Focus now turns to the deciding game of the European playoff series against Bayern Munich, again in Palau Blaugrana on Tuesday, March 3 at 8pm CEST.
