Frenkie de Jong has made it to 50 games in Europe! Today’s game with Eintracht Frankfurt was his ninth in the Europa League, which coupled with his 41 in the Champions League completes the half-ton.
27 of those games were played in a Barça shirt, while the other 23 were with his former club, Ajax.
Tonight in Germany he came on as a substitute and shortly after was serving the assist for Ferran Torres to make it 1-1.
By the numbers
Frenkie’s record in those games is 26 wins, 15 draws and 9 defeats.
His busiest season in Europe was 2018/19, when he and Ajax had to navigate six games just to qualify for the Champions League, and then he played 11 games in the competition proper. A remarkable 17 European fixtures in a single campaign!
But this season has hardly been light either, with him featuring in all six Champions League groups matches and a further five so far in the Europa League and a potential four more still to come.
This season, De Jong finally got to celebrate his first European goal. And a fine one it was in the Europa League playoff away to Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
