There is no better way to return to football than by scoring a goal. Memphis scored the last of the four goals against Athletic Club, shortly after coming on to play for the first time in 46 days.
“I’m happy to be back at Camp Nou this evening” he told Barça TV afterwards. “I have fought and worked hard to be back with the team.”
Memphis is Barça’s top scorer this season, but he had been out of action since January 12.
With his 93rd minute goal off an Ousmane Dembélé assist, he now has nine league goals in total. “I’m enjoying the way the team is playing” he said. “There are combination plays and we’re playing a very attacking kind of game.”
This was the first goal that Memphis had scored since November 27 at Villarreal. In recent games the goalscoring form has returned to Barça, and it can surely only get better now that their star striker is back to full fitness.
