Nico González registered with number 14 jersey

Nico González, previously registered as a Barça B player, has now been registered with LaLiga as an FC Barcelona first-team squad player, wearing the number 14 shirt.

Nico has played 23 games with the first team so far - all this season - and he has scored two goals. He made his debut on August 15, 2021, during the LaLiga match at Camp Nou against Real Sociedad. He came on in the 83rd minute, wearing the number 28 jersey, replacing Sergio Busquets.

Historic number

Philippe Coutinho was wearing 14 until he departed on loan to Aston Villa earlier this season. Historically it's associated to Johan Cruyff but Barça greats like Thierry Henry and Javier Mascherano have also worn it in the past. 

In the Dutch legend's case, not only did he wear that number as a player, but as a coach it was the number he liked to give to players on their debuts, before they had been assigned a number of their own. For Cruyff, the number 14 was synonymous with debuting.
