Sergio "Kun" Agüero retires, a legendary goalscorer

The Argentinian forward brings his football career to end, having scored 436 goals in 802 games

Sergio "Kun" Agüero has retired. The Argentinian forward announced the end of his football career during an emotional press conference from Camp Nou on Wednesday. So, it is goodbye to a legendary striker, who scored 436 goals in 802 games partidos as professional for Independiente (23 goals), Atletico Madrid (101), Manchester City (260) and FC Barcelona (1). He also scored goals for the Argentina national team (9 for the youth teams and 42 as a full international).

He hangs up his boots with a laudable record (21 trophies) and a list of goalscoring records that will surely stand the test of time - highest goalscorer for Manchester City, most goals for the same team in the Premier League, most goals scored by an overseas player in the Premier League, best goals per minute record in the Premier League (1 goal every 108 minutes) and third highest goalscorer for the Argentina national team.

Five games and a goal with Barça

He didn't have much time to create further records with FC Barcelona. Agüero was announced as a new Barça player on May 31, although the agreement between FC Barcelona and Sergio "Kun" Agüero only came into force on July 1 after his contract with Manchester City ended.

Unfortunately a summer injury plus the subsequent issues meant Sergio Agüero was only able to play five games for Barça. The Argentinian made his debut on October 17 against Valencia, before going on to play in the Champions League against Dynamo Kyiv, and against Real Madrid, Rayo Vallecano and Alaves in La Liga.

So, a total of five games, four in La Liga and one in the Champions League. His only goal as a Barça player came against no less than Real Madrid during the Clasico at the Camp Nou.

Final match against Alaves

Sergio Agüero played his final match in the Camp Nou against Alaves on October 30. He had to be substituted during the first half as he felt chest issues before being transferred to hospital for a cardiology examination. Subsequently on November 1, he underwent a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure with Dr Josep Brugada, before his absence through injury for the subsequent three months was announced in order to evaluate the treatment's effectiveness to determine his recovery process.

He has now brought his spectacular career to end. Thanks for the football "Kun"!
