Barça B were beaten in the duel of reserves, losing 3-0 at Villarreal B in a game that was very much conditioned by the first half sending off of Ilias Akhomach. Playing with a man less, Barça never really had a chance.
The home side had scored in their very first attack of the game, Arana finding the net after just three minutes. And although Barça B battled on strongly, their efforts took a serious dent when the red card was produced after 25 minutes.
Villarreal had ample opportunity to extend their lead, but Iñaki Peña was in fine form in goal, but would eventually be beaten again a few moments after the restart.
A fine shot from Carlo Adriano found the net and another goal for the all-yellows was never off the cards, and came from the boot of Sergio Lozano.
Barça B’s numerical disadvantage was wiped when Alex Gelardo received a second yellow, but with only five minutes left, there was no time to think of comebacks in a game best forgotten from a blaugrana perspective.
