FC Barcelona and Rakuten Group, Inc. today unveiled the long-awaited new façade at the iconic Camp Nou, featuring a vast mosaic depicting Memphis Depay, Sergio Busquets, Ansu Fati, Gerard Piqué, Frenkie De Jong and Marc-André ter Stegen. The image of the players is a collage made up of thousands of fan photos submitted by Culers around world, an extension of last year’s immensely popular The Big Picture campaign devised by the Club in association with Rakuten.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Culers have been unable to attend matches the past two years and have missed the opportunity to support their favourite team in person. This time of separation and social distancing inspired The Big Picture, a giant mosaic consisting of more than 46,000 fan photos, creating a unique moment of togetherness immortalized on the side of Camp Nou in 2020.
In September 2021, FC Barcelona and Rakuten joined forces once again to announce the return of the initiative and invited fans to share photos of themselves cheering on the team. Culers can now visit the stadium to experience their personal piece of Barça history firsthand and using their Rakuten IDs, locate their photo at Camp Nou using WebAR technology. For those unable to make it in person, Rakuten will also provide a digital photo wall for participants.
