Saturday, October 23, 2021 is the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of Palau Blaugrana, the sports facility that houses FC Barcelona's professional basketball, handball, roller hockey, and futsal teams. The facility forms part of Barcelona fans' collective memories and the Palau's magic continues to inspire fifty years later, as it has done for the hundreds of players fortunate to play in the venue.
A commemorative act to kick off a year of activities
Coinciding with the date of the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Palau Blaugrana, the Club is holding an institutional act, starting at the Palau Box and ending at Auditori 1899. It will kick off a year of activities that will honour the teams, sportspeople, and professionals that have made the venue both a sporting icon and asset for Barça.
A significant number of sporting and institutional representatives will attend the event led by president, Joan Laporta, and several members of the Board of Directors. They will be joined by relatives of Agustí Montal - the president who inaugurated the Palau in 1971 -, relatives of the architects Francesc Cavaller and Josep Soteras - the building's designer - , representatives from the professional sports teams from 1971, the inaugural year. Also attending are representatives from the current teams, the professional sports teams managers, some of the sportspeople whose jersey has been retired to the Palau, along with Club institutional representatives, sponsors, and sporting commission members.
