The years go by but the goal remains as brilliant as ever. On 12 October 1996 Ronaldo scored away from home against Compostela in La Liga - a strike that now forms part of Barça and football history - the Brazilian forward picking the ball up in his own half and with his incomparable mixture of power, pace and technique he surges past the defence to claim his place amongst the scorers of unforgettable Barça goals.
The goal caused coach at the time Sir Bobby Robson to lift his hands to his head in disbelief. Ronaldo scored a second in the game for good measure in what turned out to be a convincing 5-1 win for the blaugranes.
Ronaldo Luis Nazario da Lima stayed at Barça for just one season but what a season it was. The Brazilian ensured his legend status with his 47 goals in 49 matches and ended the campaign as top scorer in La Liga with 34 goals. That total was not matched by a Barça player until the arrival of a certain Leo Messi in the 2009/10 season.
