Barça B have been held to a 0-0 draw at the Estadi Johan Cruyff against UE Costa Brava. In a game where Toni Alonso was honoured for his 30 years as Barça B delegate, the many chances just didn’t want to turn into goals.
The recently renamed UE Llagostera were also winless coming into this game, but it was Barça B who did most to warrant the victory. Ferran Jutglà and Nico González had fabulous chances to score early on in the first half, and both Rodado and Balde cam agonisingly close later on, while Iñaki Peña did brilliantly to deny back-to-back chances for the visitors on the verge of half-time.
Coach Sergi Barjuan had been saying before the game that his team needs to learn to take their chances, and there was yet more frustration after the restart. The more the game went on, the more that frustration started getting to the players and the chances began to dry up.
Barjuan changed the dynamic with substitutions, and the last quarter of hour was a frantic affair. Both sides threw everything into their respective last ditch attempts, with another half ending with Costa Brava getting the closest chance of all. But the scoreboard wasn’t going to move today, and Barça B will have to wait another week for that elusive maiden victory.
