Barça at Euro 2020: Player by player

We assess how each of our players got on at the tournament

There is still the grand final to come on Sunday between England and Italy, but Euro 2020 is over for all the Barça players that have been involved. So it’s time to take stock of how they have all performed:

Denmark

Martin Braithwaite (565 minutes): The Barça striker started all six of his country’s games, and scored once from 16 attempts. He made 135/168 passes (80.36%), received 11 fouls and recovered 18 balls. Despite a troubled start, the Danes had a fine tournament, qualifying from their group with a fine win against Russia and then beating Wales and the Czech Republic before going out in extra time of their semi-final against England.

Spain

Pedri González (629 minutes): The 18-year-old has been one of the sensations of the tournament, and was one of the main reasons for his side’s advance all the way to the semi-finals where they lost on penalties to Italy. He started every game and missed just one minute due to a late tactical substitution, His stats of 421/461 passes (91.32%), 76.1 km covered, 13 fouls received and 25 recoveries were among the reasons why he has been one of the most talked about players in the competition.

Jordi Alba (553 minutes): Luis Enrique used the defender in every game, and a starter in five of them. Alba ‘scored’ Spain’s only goal against Switzerland, which was officially recorded as own goal and was man of the match against Poland. He had 458/519 passes (88.25%), five fouls received, 64.2 km covered and 45 recoveries.

Sergio Busquets (398 minutes): After missing the first two games due to Covid, Sergio was named MVP of the games with Slovakia and Croatia and started the ones with Switzerland and Italy too. He had 292/327 passes (89.3%), seven fouls received, 29 recoveries and 46.8 km covered.

Eric Garcia (252 minutes): Barça young signing showed his class at Euro 2020, appearing in the Spanish defence in three games and massing some superb passing stats of 279/292 (95.55%), with 15 recoveries and 26.3 km.

France

Antoine Griezmann (355 minutes): The striker started all of France’s games, which much too many people’s surprise amounted to just four. The French were hot favourites for the title, but after winning the ‘Group of Death’ let what looked like a convincing 3-1 lead slip against Swiss and went out on penalties. With excellent passing of 151/175 (86.3%), Griezmann scored one goal against Hungary and gave two assists, totalled seven shots on goal and made eight recoveries.

Clément Lenglet (45 minutes): The Barça centre back only featured in first half of the last 16 game with Switzerland, making 40/43 passes (93%) and recovering four balls.

Ousmane Dembélé (31 minutes): The striker came on as a substitute in France’s first two games, but picked up a nasty injury to his knee in the second of those and will now be out of action for about four months.

Netherlands

Frenkie De Jong (348 minutes): The Dutch midfielder started every one of what only turned out to be four games for the Dutch, who took maximum points from their group only to fall to Czech Republic at the first knockout hurdle. De Jong made 232/269 passes (86.25% accuracy), 32 recoveries and covered 40.8 km.

Memphis Depay (327 minutes): When the tournament started, Memphis had yet to be announced as Barça’s newest signing. He started all four games and scored against both Austria and North Macedonia, and also gave two assists. He had 123/158 passes (77.85%), 12 recoveries and 12 attempts on goal.
