The Barcelona Sports Tech Hub took place this Thursday, chaired by the first deputy mayor for Economy, Work, Competitiveness and Finance of Barcelona's Ajuntament City Council, Jaume Collboni, and the councilor for Sports, David Escudé.
The event was attended by several institutions that promote innovation and technology in sport, including the Barça Innovation Hub -the club's innovation, research and knowledge platform- represented by its Director, Albert Mundet.
The aim of the Barcelona Sports Tech Hub is to connect the innovation ecosystem and the sports sector, providing innovative solutions that combine knowledge and sporting and technological talent with funding. The objective is to turn Barcelona - the city fourth most strongly associated with sport in the world, according to the Cohn & Wolfe Burson Ranking, surpassed only by New York, London and Los Angeles - into a global benchmark in this sect

These objectives converge with the work carried out for the past four years by the Barça Innovation Hub, which Mundet summarised during the presentation as: Investing resources in scientific research that can then be transformed into products and services that have an impact. not only at the club but also in the sports industry; and innovation in collaboration with start-ups that already have products on the market but need to develop them and training to attract talent.
Mundet marked out some potential future collaborations between both institutions such as the consolidation of the Sports Tomorrow congress, which the BIHUB celebrates every year during the month of November, and the development of start-ups in the sector, an initiative with which the BIHUB and Barcelona Sports Tech Hub can cooperate to consolidate themselves as driving forces in sports innovation in the city.
The Barça Innovation Hub was launched on 27 March 2017 as a commitment by the club to innovation, scientific research and sharing knowledge in a structured way, involving the entire institution. The BIHUB is a global reference for innovation and sporting knowledge in different areas of the industry. During this period, 50 research projects have been developed, 5 projects have begun with start-ups and more than 16,000 professionals from 135 countries have joined online programmes and postgraduate master’s degrees in the field of the sports industry.
