Barça B have secured a place in Primera RFEF, the new third tier of Spanish football that will be contested from next season. Their place was confirmed today Saturday after Andorra and l’Hospitalet drew 1-1, meaning it is now mathematically impossible for the blaugrana reserves not to finish in one of the top three places.
But that’s not the end of the story. Although they have a place in the new-look third division, which replaces Division 2B from the 2021/22 season onwards, Barça B could still go one better and win promotion to the second tier Second Division. And that means they need to keep battling to win their games, because the points from this first phase get carried over into the competition that will decide which teams move up.
Barça B will be in six-team Group III along with Ibiza, Alcoyano, Gimnàstic Tarragona, Villarreal B and one team that has yet to be decided. The top three teams will progress to the promotion playoffs along with the best fourth placed team from all groups.
Four teams will ultimately get to join Division 2B next season, while the other 26 teams, plus the four that get relegated from Division 2B will make up the two 20-team divisions into which the future Primera RFEF will be divided.
