Barça's futsal team have won a third Champions League and Andreu Plaza now has the only title he needed as a Barça coach. The team have repeated their successes in Lleida (2012) and Baku (2014), beating ElPozo 2-1 in the first final in history to be played by two teams from the Spanish league.
The reconquest
Barça had not won the Champions League for six years. And since then, there have been three frustrated attempts: a defeat in the final against Kairat in 2015 with Marc Carmona as coach; and two semifinals lost to Movistar Inter and Kairat with Plaza as coach in 2018 (Zaragoza) and 2019 (Almaty). Barça hold the record of always reaching the Final Four in the seven editions of the top European competition and have fared as follows: three titles (2012, 2014 and 2020); a runner-up (2015); and three third positions (2013, 2018 and 2019).
Third Champions League for Lozano and a record of titles
Sergio Lozano is the only member of the Barça squad who has won the three Champions Leagues with Barça, and had the honour of lifting the trophy as Javi Rodríguez (2012) and Jordi Torras (2015) once did. With this Champions League, Lozano also surpasses Sedano as the player with the most titles in the history of Barça futsal. Lozano has 23 whilst Sedano retired with 22.
Daniel also has three Champions Leagues, winning two with Movistar Inter, as well as this one with Barça. Aicardo and Dyego have two Champions Leagues with Barça (2014 and 2020), and Marcenio also has two titles, one with Gazprom and another with Barça (2020). The rest of the current squad have all won the most important club title in Europe for the first time. It should be noted that the players who left the team on June 30 are also champions because they played in the Main and Elite Rounds with Barça: Roger, Juanjo, Arthur, Boyis and Rivillos.
The culmination of the Txus Lahoz and Andreu Plaza project
In the fifth season at the helm of Barça futsal, the Txus Lahoz and Andreu Plaza project have won all possible titles: a Champions League (2020), a league (2019), two Spanish Cups (2019 and 2020), two Copas del Rey (2018 and 2019), a Spanish Super Cup (2019) and three Copas de Catalunya (2016, 2017 and 2018).
Club with the second most Champions Leagues
In the list of Champions League winners, Movistar Inter is the club with the most titles won, with five; followed now by Barça with three as well as Kairat and the defunct Playas de Castellón, with two.
