The day after things always look different, and despite the major disappointment of not being able to get promoted to Segunda A against Sabadell, the team led by García Pimienta can go on holiday with their heads held high and with the pride of having completed a very, very good season.
Youth, goals and excellent defence
After a completely abnormal season, even more so when you consider that the squad was the youngest in the league with an average age of 19.1 years, Barça B stood alone as having the best home record in the competition (9 wins, 5 draws and only 1 loss at the Johan Cruyff Stadium). García Pimienta's team were also the second highest scoring team, with 40 goals, prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
In fact, there was a significant increase in attendance at Barça B matches, which went from an average of 1,200 spectators in the Miniestadi to 2,800 in the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
The virtue of solving problems
They say that an opportunity always arises from a problem. Well, at Barça B adversities have accumulated one after another. The last, experienced in the play-off, have been the most obvious: Álex Collado missed it due to injury, Riqui Puig and Ansu Fati had consolidated in the first team and players like Chumi, Kike Saverio, Guillem Jaime or Sergi Puig couldn't play because their contracts had been terminated.
However, throughout the season the B team has had to adjust and renew itself depending on the needs of the first team, which has often had Morer, Jorge Cuenca, Monchu, Collado, Iñaki Peña or Araujo in the routine of first-team training sessions and squad call-ups, especially in the post-confinement part of the campaign. In a sign of their maturity, none of them complained when they had to play for the B team again. Quite the contrary.
All the youth players that García Pimienta has opted for have also shown an example of having the right attitude and playing to a great level: Konrad and Ilaix have consolidated in the team and were starters in all three play-off matches, while Nils and Gerard Fernández have had their chances. To all of them we must also add the presence of Arnau Tenas, Ramon Vilà, Álvaro Sanz, Nico, Mika and Jaume Jardí.
