Messi looking to beat Zarra and Pelé

Football is coming back very soon. And that means the Leo Messi show will be back too! He and Barça will primarily have their hearts set on winning the Liga and Champions League titles, but the first team captain also has individual targets to aim for. Two legendary records, for Telmo Zarra and Pelé, could be about to fall.
Pichichi number seven?
Messi is currently the top goalscorer in the competition with 19, five more than Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema. That means he’s well on course to top the Spanish goal charts for the seventh time, which would move him one ahead of the great Zarra, with whom he is currently matched on six.
Most goals for a single club?
Brazilian legend Pelé scored 643 goals for Santos, the most goals ever for a single club and a record that nobody ever expected somebody to beat. That was until Leo Messi came along, who already has 627 for Barça and needs just 16 more to set a new record. With at least 12 games yet to play, and maybe more, he could very conceivably do that this very season!
But...
What else can Messi do this season?
If the Argentinian can help Barça to the domestic and European titles, he will also:
- Become the player with the second most European crowns. He’d have five, leaving him just one short of Gento, who has a record six.
- Win a ninth league in 12 years, and the eleventh of the 16 he’s played in. The Messi era has been quite simply out of this world!
- Match Ryan Giggs as the player with the most titles with a single club. Messi currently has 34 and two more would put him on a par with Manchester United’s legendary Welshman, who won 36.
