Played at Mestalla, the Copa del Rey final on April 5, 1990 between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid was marked by toughness on the pitch and passion in the stands. Madrid's Hierro was sent off in the 45th minute due to receiving two yellow cards, and in the second half Barça made their advantage count. Clearly imposing their superiority, they took the title thanks to a goal from Amor (min 68) and another from Julio Salinas late in the match.
These were the teams:
FC Barcelona: Zubizarreta, Aloisio (Serna, 27’), Alexanko, Koeman, Amor (Soler, 70’), Bakero, Julio Salinas, Eusebio, Laudrup, Robert and Begiristain.
Real Madrid: Buyo, Chendo, Gordillo, Hierro, Sanchís, Ruggeri, Butrageño (Julio Llorente, 63’), Míchel (Aldana, 77’), Martín Váquez, Hugo Sánchez and Schuster.
After a league campaign that wasn't great, the team coached by Johan Cruyff since 1988 won the Copa del Rey and that started off the glorious Dream Team era. Barça then went on to win four consecutive league titles and the European Cup at Wembley.
