On 8 July 2017, then Ajax player Abdelhak Nouri suffered a horrendous blow in a friendly against Werder Bremen. The player received serious, permanent brain damage and was left in a coma. This Thursday, two years and eight months later, the player’s brother has announced that Addelhak has finally come out of the coma.
FC Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong had emotional words to say about his former team-mate. "I was sitting with him and his mother entered” he remembers. “She asked him ‘where should Frenkie go? Should he sign for Barça?' And he raised an eyebrow. It was a very special moment.”
The wonderful news reported by his family is that “he’s not in a coma any more. He is at home. He sleeps, eats, raises his eyebrows, turns… but he is still very dependent. We can communicate with him. He expresses things with his eyebrows. And we watch football together and he reacts.”
