As part of the development of the Espai Barça project, the club has continued to work on reviewing and updating procedures, with the aim of transforming it into the largest and most innovative sports and entertainment space in the centre of a large city .
The initial building permit corresponded to the future Camp Nou project developed by Nikken Sekkei and b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos. In recent years, the project has been revised to incorporate constructive and design improvements, which involved the integration of IDOM into the design team. For its part, Nikken Sekkei, a Japanese architectural studio, is responsible for leading benchmark sports facilities, such as the Niigata and Kashima stadiums for the 2002 World Cup and the Saitama Super Arena, and has always guaranteed throughout the process the continuity of the initial design when working on solutions so that any new concepts are integrated into the proposal in a balanced manner.
In the case of B720 Fermín Vázquez arquitectes, this leading firm with projects such as the Mercat dels Encants and the new Sagrera station has been responsible for providing knowledge of architecture and local processes as well as contributing its extensive experience of working in liaison with international architects and their desire to produce quality architecture.
At a more advanced stage of the project, the IDOM team was recruited. This international consulting, engineering and architecture company has a long and proven record in complex and innovative projects and has extensive knowledge of sports projects, having created stadiums such as the new Estadio Monumental of River Plate and the new Estadio San Lorenzo de Almagro in Buenos Aires, Argentina, San Carlos de Apoquindo, in Santiago de Chile, as well as San Mamés, in Bilbao, and the Ciutat of Valencia.
