In an exclusive interview with Barça TV, Ter Stegen looks ahead to the Champions League clash with Napoli, the Clásico against Real Madrid, the arrivals of Quique Setién and Martin Braithwaite, and discusses recently becoming a father...
Italian job
“We’re all excited about going there. Napoli have always done well in recent years. We know it will be a very difficult game but we’ll analyse the opposition well. We hope to get a good result in Naples to give us a good chance of qualifying”.
Straight on to Madrid
“We’ve been getting more luck away from home in recent years, in the Copa del Rey for example. We want to play our football, to stick to our philosophy wherever we go. The idea is to get a win at a very difficult ground”.
Quique Setién
“We’re gradually getting to do what he wants. He has a philosophy that we respect and we want to play the way he wants us to. Such a change wasn’t easy in the middle of a season because you have to adapt quickly, without a preseason. We’re on the right track, we’re clearly developing and the results are good”.
Playing from behind
“That’s what the boss wants, got them to play with me more. When we make use of our numbers we can use that to get the ball forward. I’m always happy to have the ball, whether it’s at my feet or in my hands”.
More firepower with Braithwaite
“I don’t usually watch any single player, but he clearly has quality. The bosses made the decision to help the team and I’m sure Martin will work hard and do a lot for us”.
Recent fatherhood
“He is a lovely little boy and we are enjoying having him a lot. At first we were a bit tired because it’s a very different situation and you have to get used to it. I don’t sleep as many hours in a row now but when you see his smile when you get up in the morning, you forget everything”.
An unforgettable day in our lives.

Barcelona, his city
“It's where my wife and my son live. We feel very respected by the people and they treat us really well and we are really enjoying being here."
