Bright sunshine bathed the Camp Nou as Barça and Getafe kicked off on Saturday afternoon. The first 15 minutes of play weren’t without incident, and though both sides looked to open the scoring the game remained goalless.
Jordi Alba was faced off with an early injury, replaced by Junior Firpo, and shortly after the visitors thought they had taken the lead through Allan Nyom. However, it was ruled out after consultation with VAR, the player penalised for a foul in the build up.
A magnificent first-time Leo Messi assist on 33 found Antoine Griezmann, and the Frenchman’s delicate finish put the blaugranes ahead. Five minutes later, a super passing move from the hosts ended with Sergi Roberto putting them 2-0 up.
The opening quarter hour of the second half had little by way of goalmouth incident, however, Barça were completely comfortable in possession and forced their opponents to chase shadows for the most part.
Out of nothing, substitute Ángel Rodríguez volleyed Getafe back into the match on 65, before Ansu Fati stung David Soria’s fingertips with a long-range effort.
An incredible three-touch save from Marc-André ter Stegen stopped Ángel from getting Getafe’s second, with Griezmann firing over in the next attack as the game really began to hot up with 15 to play.
As the game drew to its conclusion, Messi came closest to adding to his tally, but his shot just missed the target.
