When Leo Messi took to the pitch on November 16, 2003 in a friendly against FC Porto, nobody was aware of quite what an impact the then-16 year old forward would have on FC Barcelona history. The Argentini would go on to become a global superstar, a club icon and perhaps the world's greatest ever player.
This Saturday marks 16 years since that unofficial debut. In the game at the Estadio do Dragao, which Barça would lose 2-0, coach Frank Rijkaard brought Messi on in the 71st minute in place of Fernando Navarro. Rather than his now-iconic number 10 shirt, the debutant sported the number 14.
The rest is history.
