The Barça players Philippe Coutinho and Arthur Melo are champions of the 2019 Copa América, after Brazil beat Peru, 3-1, in the final at the Maracaná. Both Coutinho and Arthur started. Coutinho was subbed out in the 77th minute, while Arthur played all 90 minutes and assisted Brazil’s second goal.
The 'canarinha' went ahead, 1-0, after 15 minutes of play, when Everton scored on a pass from Gabriel Jesus on the right side. Peru, however, managed to draw level at the end of the first half with a penalty kick from Paolo Guerrero in minute 44 following a Thiago Silva hand ball in the area. But Brazil struck right back as Gabriel Jesus took a pass from Arthur to go back up, 2-1, in first half injury time.
In the second half, Gabriel Jesús was sent off and Peru worked hard to find the equalizer, but Richarlison converted from the penalty spot in the 90th minute to seal the 3-1 win and Brazil’s first Copa América title in 12 years. It is also Brazil’s ninth overall, while it is just the first for Arthur and Coutinho.
