Senegal’s victory in their third and final group game at the African Cup of Nations, 3-0 against Kenya, means that the Lions of Teranga will be among the sixteen teams that advance to the knockout stages.
After beating Tanania, managed by former Barça star Emmanuel Amunike, 2-0 in the opening fixture but losing to Algeria, this victory means one of the hot favourites to take the title qualify in second place from Group C.
Moussa Wague, who started the first two games, sat out the third, in which goals from Ismaïla Sarr of Stade Rennais and a brace from Liverpool’s Sadio Mané ensured the three points at the 30 June Stadium, Cairo.
Senegal will now play Uganda, who finished second behind hosts Egypt in Group A, in the first round of knockout matches, kick-off at 9.00pm local time and CEST.
