The Uruguayan national team began their Copa América campaign by defeating Ecuador 4-0 at the Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte. It was a match in which Barça striker, Luis Suárez, was the protagonist, scoring a goal and assisting another. Óscar Tabárez's side had control of the game at all times and soon scored through Lodeiro, who was able to dribble past three defenders after a wonderful Suárez cross.
Cavani, from a corner, added another, before Suárez, thanks to his predatory instincts, scored the third just before the break. Quintero's red card, confirmed after consultation with VAR, only added to Ecuador's woes.
Despite improving in the second half, Ecuador were still no match for their opponents, who scored a fourth thanks to Mina's own goal. The next game for Suárez and his team-mates comes on Friday, June 21 against Japan (1:00am CEST).
