Chile through to the next round of the World Cup
Despite the 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands, Alexis' Chile move on to the Round of 16 Spain close out its World Cup bid with a 0-3 win over Australia

Alexis Sánchez’s Chile were defeated by the Netherlands (2-0) in round three of the group stage of the World Cup. The men managed by Jorge Sampaoli were unable to overcome Van Gaal’s team, but they will advance to the next round as the runner up team.
The Netherlands, led by Robben, were dangerous in the first half as were Chile, but neither side managed to score the opener in the first 45 minutes. In the second half, Alexis came close to putting Chile in front but Leroy Fer on the 77th minute and Depay on the 92nd secured the three points for the Dutch team. Despite the defeat, Chile go through to the next round in second place.
Spain, with Iniesta and Jordi Alba in the starting line-up, closed out their World Cup bid with a 0-3 victory over Australia. A goals from former Barça player David Villa, on 36 minutes, allowed Del Bosque’s team to go to the break with a one-goal lead. In the second half Fernando Torres doubled Spain’s lead, and Juan Mata made it 0-3 before the end of the match.
