At last the fans have had the chance to see Luis Enrique’s new Barça squad. As usual, a number of players caught the eye, including Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Munir and Messi. Here are some of the stats from the 49th Gamper Trophy.
Barça’s 6-0 win against León means the Club has won 37 of the 49 finals held so far
Munir takes the honorary prize of pre-season top scorer with four goals. His two goals last night were his first in the Camp Nou. He also scored twice against Helsinki.
Sergio Busquets dominated midfield right up to being substituted by Samper (62 min). He won back possession eight times
Messi, Neymar, Mascherano and Alves, the last four players to report back for training after the World Cup, featured in the starting line-up in their first pre-season match
Croatian international Rakitic had an excellent debut. In 62 minutes he produced three shots on goal, won back possession five times and made one goal assist.
Leo Messi took just three minutes to find the back of the net following a good move with Neymar. That makes five goals in the Gamper. In previous tournaments he scored against Santos (2013), twice against Napoli (2011) and one against Inter (2007). His goal and three assists earned him the man-of-the-match award.
Andrés Iniesta captained the team in the first half and Xavi in the second half. Xavi lifted the trophy on behalf of the team.
The entry of Xavi, Montoya, Sandro, Sergi Roberto and Samper in the 62 minute meant that, until the appearance of Luis Suárez in the 76 minute, all eleven players on the pitch - Masip, Montoya, Piqué, Bartra, Jordi Alba, Samper, Xavi, Sergi Roberto, Sandro, Rafinha and Munir - were products of the Club’s youth system.
