COACH
Málaga born Carlos Ortega is in his second spell at FC Barcelona after an 11 season career as a blaugrana between 1994 and 2005. Ortega won everything there was to win: six European Cups, five European Super Cups, a Cup Winners' Cup, an EHF Cup, six Asobal League and four Copas del Rey.
As the handball boss he will take over from Xavier Pascual who was the coach for the last 12 years and won 61 titles.
After retiring as a player, he began his coaching career at Antequera and stayed for six seasons (2005-2011). From there he traveled to Hungary to the almighty MKB Veszprém (2012-2015). He won the league and cup for the three seasons he remained in the Central European country. After this experience he traveled to Japan to be the coach of the international side (2016-2017), which he combined with the position of coach at KIF Kolding before heading to Hannover-Burgdorf.
The German side was his more recent club before returning to FC Barcelona to lead the new Barça handball project.
