Summer 2011 can be considered one of the key moments in the life of Sergio Lozano as it was when he first donned the Barça jersey. Some 14 years have gone by and his smile has lit up the Ciutat Esportiva every morning since. 14 seasons (plus seven as captain) and a career full of success and overcoming challenges that have marked both Barça's history and the sport of futsal itself. He will say goodbye in a few months now he has announced his retirement, but his legacy will remain forever.
Out of this world record
Ever since he joined FC Barcelona, Sergio Lozano has been a key cog in the team. Much more than just a leader on the court, his energy and passion for futsal have seen him become an icon both for fans and teammates. The Palau crowd took him firmly into their hearts.
His contribution to Barça has been key in keeping the Club at the forefront of the sport and the one of the best teams in the discipline. His numbers speak for themselves – highest ever goalscorer for the team, plus 4 Champions League, 4 Spanish Super Cups, 6 Ligas, 7 Copa del Reys, 6 Spanish Cups, and 7 Catalonia Cup trophies. A list of achievements that many can dream of, but few could achieve.
An example to follow for overcoming adversity
His career hasn't been all plain sailing and success, however, as he has had to overcome a series of adversities. Four knee operations saw him away from the courts for long periods.
