The FC Barcelona fans at Estadi Johan Cruyff were treated to another big Barça win in this UEFA Women's Champions League matchday three fixture. A dominant performance against Austrian side Sankt Pölten, with Pajor, Kika, Aitana, Walsh, Pina (2) and Graham Hansen scoring the goals in a 7-0 win, the second at home in the group stage.
Changes to the starting eleven
The demands of the calendar saw coach Pere Romeu make six changes from the team that won away at Atlético Madrid (0-3) in Liga F, Jana Fernàndez, Engen, Marta Torrejón, Walsh, Kika and Vicky all coming in for Brugts, Mapi, Irene Paredes, Patri Guijarro, Alexia and Graham Hansen.
Domination but no goals
Barça were in attack mode from the off, but it wasn't easy to break through the Austrian side's very compact defence. They went close in moments, but no goals came in the first 30 minutes, however that was all to change.
Five goals in 13 minutes
The first goal came from a low Ona Batlle cross to the front post, Pajor neatly diverting the ball to open the scoring (1-0, min 32). The second saw Kika finish a rebound from inside the penalty area (2-0, min 39). Ballon d'Or winner Aitana then scored the third (min 40), before Walsh curled in a great goal from outside the box (4-0, min 42). Still time for Pina to acrobatically steer in a Vicky cross to make it 5-0 at the break.
Further domination and victory confirmed
Not let up from Barça after the restart, as a penalty awarded for a foul on Ona Batlle saw Pina convert confidently, sending the visiting keeper the wrong way (6-0, min 52). Great applause when Alexia and Caroline Graham Hansen came on to replace goalscorers Aitana and Pajor, and the domination continued.
The pace then dropped slightly as victory seemed assured and substitutes Patri and Brugts were joined on the pitch by full-back Alba Caño for her debut in the Champions League with Barça. Still time for another goal as Graham Hansen scored in the 88th minute, final score at the Johan 7-0.
Next up Barça play El Clásico away to Real Madrid on 16 November (kick-off 8.00pm CET) to fulfil the Liga F matchday 10 fixture. Following that, the blaugranes will face Sankt Pölten again in the Champions League matchday four fixture, this time in Austria (21 November, kick-off 9.00pm CET).
