FC Barcelona 7-0 Costa Adeje Tenerife: Another huge win
The Estadi Johan Cruyff witnessed yet another stunning performance by the Barça women, this time against Costa Adeje Tenerife in a game that was already over before half-time, when six of the seven goals had already been scored, ideal preparation for the Champions League quarter final against SK Brann on Wednesday at 9pm CET.
Both Alexia Putellas and Fridolina Rolfö were back in the starting line-up, and it was the latter who started the goal-fest after just eight minutes.
And it was the former was did the setting-up for Claudia Pina to double the shortly after, before Hansen made it three with a powerful drive from long range. On 34 minutes Pina claimed here second, and with Tenerife in utter disarray, only a fool would have bet against further blaugrana scoring.
We didn't even have to wait until the second half. Two goals in as many minutes, the first a bomber from Alexia and the second a header from close range from Marta Torrejón were both too hot for the visiting keeper to keep her hands on. 6--0 at the break!
Different second half
The second half saw the home side very clearly take their foot off the pedal, and rather surprisingly there was only one more goal to come. Much of that has to be put down to Cheza in the Canary Islanders' goal, who pulled off a series of tremendous saves to prevent her side from what might otherwise have been a double figure defeat. The only time she was beaten was by an own goal, Gift Monday living up to her name a day too soon by turning a corner into her own net.
The win leaves Barça even closer to yet another league title, with 19 wins and one draw from 20 games.
