The Azteca Stadium was the venue on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning in Europe) as the Barça women defeated Club América 2-0 with goals in the final instants of each half.
Festival atmosphere
The game between the European champions and the current leaders of the Liga MX was a veritable celebration of women's football, with a large crowd at the only stadium ever to host the men's World Cup Final twice.
Barça's early domination had somewhat slowed down by the end of the first half, but that is when they finally took the lead. Dragoni and Oshoala led the counter attack and Claudia Pina struck home with a powerful shot.
Both teams came out for the restart with almost entirely different XIs, with a huge ovation reserved for Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas.
Judit Pujols scorcher
The hosts hit the post with what had been the closest chance for either side in the second half, but the Catalans eventually put the game to bed in the dying instants of injury time. Young Judit Pujols stormed forward and rocketed in Barça's second goal of the night, which was celebrated by the thousands of Barça-clad fans who had come along to enjoy the match.
