Alexia Putellas has once again won FIFA's prize for the best female player in the football world. This is the second time she's collected the honour after also winning it in 2021.
She adds the trophy to a collection that already includes two Ballons d'Or, and two UEFA player of the Year awards in 2021 and 2022.
Impeccable 2021/22
In one of the finest seasons yet, Putellas and Barça won the Spanish treble of Liga, Copa de la Reina and Supercopa. Indeed, Barça won those trophies without losing a single game on the way.
She scored the last goal in the cup final defeat of Sporting Huelva (6-1), and in the Super Cup against Atlético Madrid (7-0), but despite also playing a starring role in games at Spotify Camp Nou against Real Madrid (5-2) and Wolfsburg, she had to settle for a runners-up medal in the Champions League, won by Lyon.
For Barça and Spain she ended the season with 43 goals and 23 assists. Sadly she mised on the European Championship in England with a knee injury, for which reason she has yet to play in the 2022/23 season
