FC Barcelona 6-0 Montpellier: Magnificent presentation!

The party atmosphere in the build-up continued into the game as the Barça women put six goals past their French guests. Three in the first half and three in the second equated to an emphatic win to delight the packed Estadi Johann Cruyff.

New signings Geyse Ferreira and Lucy Bronze both impressed in their first appearances at the ground, the former scoring a brace and the latter contributing an assist. The MVP awartd was collected by Patri Guijarro. 

The fans also showed their solidarity with the injured Alexia Putellas by applauding in the 11th minute of both halves. The Barça star is out with a long-term injury.

Dominant start

The Catalans were the dominant force from start to finish, and it only looked like a matter of time before they'd be scoring. The opener came when Rolfo dribbled down the left in the 23rd minute and popped a lovely cross onto Geyse's head and that was 1-0.

Barça just got stronger after scoring. Patri Guijarro scored the second with a fine strike from the edge of the area and then added a second when she nodded in a Clàuida Pina free kick moments before the break.

Geyse scores two and one assist

Lucy Bronze supplied the cross for yet another headed goal from Geyse after the restart. Moments later, it was the Brazilian doing the assisting and Rolfo making it 5-0. Barça were now playing in top gear and Ariana finished the rout in the 77th minute as she rounded goalkeeper Romane to pop home goal number six. There could have been one more when Barça were awarded a penalty, but Patri's kick was saved. She missed out on the hat trick, but would have the consolation of winning the MVP trophy.

Coach Jonatan Giráldez also gave time to younger players Vicky López, Ariana Arias, Ona Baradad, Martina, Alba Caño and María Pérez.
