After joining the preseason training camp at La Vall d'en Bas on Thursday, Lucy Bronze had a chat to the club's media about her first few days as an FC Barcelona player. “Barça is one of the biggest clubs in the world" she said. "I've played against them several times. When they called, the answer was always going to be yes. It's a dream to play here."
The recently crowned European champion added that, “this club has so much history, both the men's and the women's team, and there are so many fans around it. Everyone is talking about Spanish football and I'm delighted to be part of it. It's a great place to play. A lot of other teams try to copy it because it's number one."
Continental standard
Asked about how Barça has developed its women's team in recent years, Bronze answered, “the team has become much more competitive. Not many teams can say they've played three Champions League finals in such a short time, probably only Lyon and Barça. I have followed Barça especially closely since Toni Duggan signed and have always followed them. They've improved a lot individually."
The full back finished by describing what a fine welcome she has had at the club and how much she appreciates working under Jonatan Giráldez. "I think I can bring a lot of energy to Barça" she said. "I like to defender and attack and I'm very competitive. I hate losing. I love playing for the best teams."
