Budapest 2019, Gothenburg 2021 and now Turin 2022!
After seeing off the She-Wolves of Wolfsburg in the semi-finals, 5-3 on aggregate, the Barça women’s team have ensured their presence in a third UEFA Women’s Champions League Final in just four years.
Ever since the section turned professional, Barça have just got bigger and bigger and better and better at the most relentless of paces.
Rise to the top
It was just a decade ago, in the 2012/13 season, when they played their first ever game in the UWCL, and were soundly beaten 7-0 on aggregate by Arsenal.
Things went much better the season after, 2013/14, when they went all the way to the quarter finals only to lose 5-0 to Wolfsburg.
By 2017 they had become the first team from Spain to reach the semi-finals, where they lost 5-1 to Paris St Germain.
Two seasons after that, in 2019, they qualified for the final for the very first time. Sadly, they never really got a look-in against a rampant Olympique Lyonnais, who won 4-1 in Budapest.
But the fast and consistent rise of the Barça Women continued. Last season, 2020/21, they made it to the final again. And they finally got their hands on the trophy for the very first time, toppling Chelsea 4-0 in Gothenburg.
On May 21 at the Juventus Stadium, Turin, they will have the chance to make it two in a row.
