FC Barcelona’s women’s team clinched the league title after beating Atlético Féminas this Sunday afternoon in Madrid. The players managed by Xavi Llorens, who have yet to lose a game in the competition this season, dominated their competition thanks to goals from Soni (2) and Jenni.
Eyes on the prize
Barça came out of the gates swinging, with the clear intention of closing out the game as soon as possible. After only 20 seconds the Blaugrana had created their first serious chance thanks to Corredera. Alexia, on seven minutes, and later Corredera, a minute later, nearly gave Barça the lead. The first goal was scored eight minutes later, when Sonia Bermúdez outpaced her defenders and fired past the keeper. Corredera could have doubled Barça’s lead on the 23rd minute but Lola slapped the ball to a corner kick. The visting side managed to get their second nine minutes later when Soni converted her penalty a la Panenka.
Jenni puts the game beyond reach
Llorens’ players looked to get their third and definitive goal in the second half, and they didn’t have to wait long. On 49 minutes, Soni found Jenni Hermoso in the area, and the forward made sure to make it 0-3.
When the referee blew the final whistle, Barça were league champions for the third consecutive year.
