Ronald Araujo was born in Rivera, Uruguay, on 7 March 1999. The young central defender began playing professionally for his hometown team, and later joined the lower categories at Rentistas in the Uruguayan Second Division.
Araujo stood out in his country and Boston River signed him. After one year playing in Montevideo and gaining experience in the Uruguayan top flight, he signed a five-year contract with Barça B on 29 August 2018 with a buy out clause of 100 million euros, going up to 200 million if he joins the first team squad. For the 2020/21 season the defender became part of the FC Barcelona first team squad winning his first trophy at the Club, the Copa del Rey.
In his third season Araujo became a valuable part of the Barça defence, playing more than 3,000 minutes for the first team, scoring four goals and showing his versatility by playing at right back when called upon.
The season 2022/23 saw the Uruguayan become a vital cog in a brilliant Barça defence which conceded just 18 goals in 38 La Liga matches. Araujo picked up his first La Liga title with the first team in the same season.
Araujo was part of the Uruguay squad for the Copa América in Brazil in 2021 and for the World Cup in Qatar where he was unable to make an appearance due to injury.
