Unless you have been on a different plant for the last couple of days, you will know that Frenkie de Jong is joining FC Barcelona in July.
The Camp Nou will not be new to him, although the last time he was here, just over three years ago on 30 December 2015 it was under very different circumstances.
He was here simply as a fan to watch Barça play Betis in a Liga game that ended in a convincing 4-0 victory for Luis Enrique and his team.
In the company of his partner, the Dutchman got to enjoy some quality football, with Luis Suárez scoring two, Leo Messi getting one and the other coming from a Westermann own goal.
That was a majestic display from the Catalans that day, and one wonders what was going through young Frenkie’s mind – could he have already been imagining that one day he would not be a mere spectator, but a part of the show?
