More recognition for Leo Messi and Marc-André ter Stegen; the Barça captain and German goalkeeper have been chosen in the UEFA.com fans’ Team of the Year. The Argentine was part of the FIFA team for 2017/18 and in the 11FIFPRO named last September.
On Friday the final 11 was named after voting closed at UEFA.com and is formed by the following players: Ter Stegen, Ramos, Van Dijk, Varane, Marcelo, Modric, Kanté, Hazard, Mbappé, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
It is the 10th year that the Argentine has been included in the XI as between 2008 and 2018 he only missed out in 2013. Amongst the 50 players nominated there were seven blaugranes: Ter Stegen, Piqué, Umtiti, Jordi Alba, Rakitic, Messi and Luis Suárez with the Argentine and the German included in the final XI.
The inclusion rounds off a great 2018 for both players as they claimed the league title, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup with Messi claiming the ‘Pichichi’ title and the Golden Shoe, the Barça number 10 once again underlining his position as the best player in the world and Ter Stegen showing why many consider him to be the best goalkeeper in the world.
