PORTLAND, Oregon — One year after conquering the east coast of the United States, FC Barcelona is back at it again, this time on the west coast. After an 11-hour non-stop flight from Barcelona–El Prat airport to Portland, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest, Barça is on the ground and ready to kick off another summer tour in the US, though this one happens to be the first one in which both the men's and women's teams are participating together.
The Airbus A-340-600 left Barcelona at 5.15pm CEST and took a high, northern arc, flying directly over the United Kingdom, Iceland, Greenland, and Canada, before slipping into US airspace and landing in Portland at 7.05pm PST.
Barça is now on US soil for another edition of the International Champions Cup. Portland is the first stop on the tour, before the team goes on to Los Angeles, where they have their first game of the preseason against EPL side Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 28 July.
Ernesto Valverde took an initial squad of 26 players with him, half of which are members of Barça B, while Ter Stegen will be joining them in Dallas and new signing Malcom will be heading out on Wednesday.
As well as Spurs, Barça also have fixtures lined up against AS Roma (July 31) and AC Milan (August 4).
The players were joined by club president Josep Maria Bartomeu, first vice-president Jordi Cardoner, the vice-president for the Sports Area Jordi Mestre, board members Jordi Moix, Josep Ramón Vidal-Abarca, Maria Teixidor, Maria Teixidor, Enrique Tombas, Emili Rousaud and CEO Òscar Grau.
